Since its opening in 2006, our Portuguese member Musicbox has been a cornerstone of Lisbon’s independent and alternative music scene, with over 200 shows and 500 DJ sets organised each year.

After 19 vibrant years, the Portuguese capital is set to lose one of its most iconic music discovery hubs, as Musicbox prepares to permanently close its doors on 15 September.

Musicbox has been an active Liveurope member since 2014 and has since brought close to 500 Liveurope-supported gigs to their stage in Lisbon’s pink street. The venue also welcomed the Liveurope members and team twice during MIL, their annual festival and convention which has grown into a key event on the international music calendar.

The team behind the venue will now dedicate its full attention to Casa Capitão, which has just reopened following extensive renovations. All upcoming events originally scheduled at Musicbox will be transferred to Casa Capitão.

As we bid farewell to Musicbox, we do so with confidence that its legacy will live on through the team’s continued work at Casa Capitão. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with them in this new chapter.
